Charlie Haskins is an artist and educator from southern Ohio. His work is characterized by its lively illustrations and caricatures that depict fantastical stories sprinkled with whimsy and folk lore.
As a member of a large family of artists, Charlie has always been surrounded by creativity and inspiration. Growing up, he was always fascinated by album covers and Saturday morning cartoons. He began drawing at a young age and, as he got older, he experimented with different styles and techniques, incorporating elements of traditional folk art into his illustrations.
Charlie works primarily with acrylic. His process is spontaneous and playful, allowing him to create images that are both entertaining and thought-provoking. Inspired by the work of children’s authors like Dr. Seuss, Charlie’s paintings, sculptures, and murals often feature people and situations that are funny, ironic, and witty. He is known for his ability to capture the essence of his subjects with a few bold strokes and his calligraphic outlines.
Charlie’s work has been exhibited in galleries and festivals across the country, and he has won several awards for his contributions to the his local community’s art scene. He continues to create new work from his studio in Portsmouth, where he is constantly inspired by the people and events that surround him.
