The first time I met Ralph Stanley, I asked him to sign this drawing. A few years later, my picture was on display at an art show in the Vern Riffe Center. The art show’s opening just happened to be on the same night that Dr. Stanley was having his concert. To my surprise, he showed up at the art exhibit with his grandson. I watched them as they made their way around the gallery. When they came to this drawing, I saw Ralph Stanley nudge his grandson in the arm, and I heard him whisper to the boy “See. I told you I was famous.”
